Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux wins VB100 award Independent comparative test reveals quality of Sophos solution

VB100
Sophos Anti-Virus has won the VB100 award again

Sophos, a world leader in IT security and control, today announced that Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux has been awarded the accolade of VB100 by Virus Bulletin magazine. This is the 37th time that Sophos Anti-Virus has won a prestigious VB100 award, confirming its ability to detect 100% of the viruses in the wild, and its position as one of the most powerful virus protection products available.

Virus Bulletin tested 16 different anti-virus products for their detection rates, lack of false alarms, and speed of scanning on the Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 platform. Sophos successfully detected all of the in-the-wild viruses with no false alarms, outperforming a number of other vendors.

"Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux impressed during the tests with its excellent scanning speed and detection rates," said John Hawes, technical consultant at Virus Bulletin. "With no misses in the wild, and no false positives, Sophos earns itself another VB100 award."

"Unprotected Linux computers that interact with Windows and other platforms can introduce a real threat to businesses. Although Windows malware hosted on Linux computers remains the greatest threat, the appearance of the Froot worm last month has been a timely reminder that businesses that malicious code written for Microsoft operating systems isn't the only problem," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos. "Sophos customers can rest assured that our anti-virus defense for Linux is as strong as it is for other platforms."

All Sophos products use the same technology to protect against viruses, worms, spyware, Trojan horses and other malware, ensuring consistently high detection rates across all operating systems.

About the Virus Bulletin 100% award

The Virus Bulletin 100% awards recognise those products best able to detect viruses known to be 'in the wild'. Unlike some other similar-sounding schemes, Virus Bulletin uses the most up-to-date WildList in its tests. This means that products that are 'up with the game' are the ones most likely to be granted VB100 awards. More information about Virus Bulletin can be found on its website: www.virusbtn.com.
