How to publish Sophos Anti-Virus files on your website
You can enable users to obtain Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+, Windows NT, Windows 95/98/Me and Mac OS X installation and update files from your own website (a web CID). This can be especially useful for computers that are not always connected to the network.
Refer also to the knowledgebase How to create a Web CID.
What to do
You must:
- Make the updates folder and its contents available on your website.
- Configure your computers to obtain updates from this location.
Publishing the updates folder
- Locate the Central Installation Directory (CID) on the Sophos
Anti-Virus server that your computers currently update from. Go to the root of this, by default it is Program Files\Sophos Sweep for NT. - Make that folder and its contents available on your website.
- Specify usernames and passwords to prevent unauthorised access to this folder on your website.
The documentation for your web server will describe how to share a folder over the web and how to set up usernames and passwords for it. If you have any questions about how to do this, please contact your web server vendor.
You must now configure managed computers to update from your website or configure a single computer to update from your website .
If you use Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 you must perform additional configuration.
