Upgrading a network without a Windows server
Even if you have no Windows server, you can use EM Library to download the current versions of Sophos
What to do
Install the management software on a Windows workstation
You will need either Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000 Professional.
Download the installer from the products area of the website and use it to install the Sophos management tools.
You can then install Enterprise Console management server and EM Library on a computer running Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000 Professional.
Note:
If you plan to use Enterprise Console to manage computers in a live environment, you should install the software on a computer running Windows 2000 server or Windows 2003 server.
Installation on a workstation is appropriate for use:
- in evaluating Sophos Enterprise Console on a small scale installation (fewer than five clients, assuming the computer is not otherwise being used as a server, e.g. for file and print sharing), or
- in enabling organizations without a Windows server to install EM Library to automatically update Sophos software and to use Enterprise Console to create central configurations that can be deployed to clients not directly managed by Enterprise Console.
You should check the terms of your Microsoft Windows end user or volume license (as applicable) to ensure that you are able to use the Enterprise Console to manage Sophos
If you use EM Library on this computer, you should create Central Installation Directories (CIDs) on other Windows, NetWare, UNIX or Linux servers, since CIDs on a Windows workstation will have a limit to the number of clients that can access them (10 in most Windows licenses).
Install Sophos Anti-Virus across the network
Install the new versions of Sophos
