Sophos Anti-Virus: preserving your existing SAVAdmin groups, CIDs and settings when upgrading

When upgrading to the current versions of Sophos Anti-Virus from obsolete versions, you can preserve your SAVAdmin groups, but configuration for Sophos Anti-Virus must be determined by policies set in Enterprise Console.

SAVAdmin information

You can export SAVAdmin computer names and groups to Enterprise Console. However, you cannot keep any other information from SAVAdmin.

Existing Central Installation Directories (CIDs)

During the upgrade, you can continue to use your existing CIDs for obsolete versions of Sophos Anti-Virus. However, you must have new CIDs for the new versions. These CIDs will have a different name and format from the old ones.

Previous Sophos Anti-Virus configuration

Your previous configuration will be lost. When you install your new versions of Sophos Anti-Virus, your computers will take their configuration from the policies set in Enterprise Console. If you set no policies, then they will use the default configuration.

Make a note of what your existing configuration does, and recreate those features with anti-virus and updating policies in Enterprise Console.

Phasing in the upgrade

Using Enterprise Console, you can install a new version of Sophos Anti-Virus on some groups of computers, while temporarily retaining an older version on other groups. Continue to use SAVAdmin to monitor and manage any Windows computers running the older versions of Sophos Anti-Virus.
